Training Rikishi

Each month, or Virtual Sumo Turn, between honbasho, you have the chance to train and improve each of your rikishi.

A rikishi profile will show whether they have any training points available to exchange into improvements. The number of training points earned every month will increase slightly as a rikishi moves up the ranks since improvement is not just about work in the gym but also about learning from the dohyo and fighting against higher ranked rikishi teaches you more.

To train your rikishi you need to submit the form on the Train Rikishi page (via Play on the main menu).

Rikishi can train in Technical Skills, Balance or Speed. There are no negatives to this training. Improvements in Speed require more commitment. How much improvement you get in each attribute for every improvement point spent will depend on your rikishi's aptitude for learning.

In Virtual Sumo you can alter the weight of your rikishi. This is classed as training. In part this is because it is envisaged that the weight added or lost is done so carefully, putting on as much muscle as possible and taking weight off in a managed way that does not result in huge energy drops.

You can do all your month's improvement in one go or you can train in small chunks to see the effect. If you are altering a rikishi's weight it may be best to do this in small steps since any change to weight will bring both advantages and disadvantages and you may wish to reverse your decision.

For example, Tamawashi may use 5 training points to lose weight. He will lose 5kg. He may then feel that some of his actions scores have dropped by more than is acceptable to him. He may therefore use another 2 improvement points to put back on 2kg. A total of 7 training points will have been used.

He could have taken off 1kg at a time, and may have decided against more weight loss after 3kg, but obviously this takes up real life time and effort.

Any training points unspent at the end of a turn will banked and can be used in later turns.

No training or weight adjustment can be carried used during honbasho.
