Moshiai

Moshiai are a traditional form of training that take place daily in many beya. In Virtual Sumo they form an excellent opportunity for stable managers to test out ring strategies against different opponents.

Virtual Sumo moshiai are open to all rikishi. They occur every 2 or 3 days outside of honbasho and are advertised on the News page. Entry is made by submitting the form on the Moshiai page via Basho on the main menu.

As well as many unsigned lower ranked wrestlers any top ranking rikishi will enter moshiai between honbasho.

The lowest ranking entries fight first and the winner stays on against the next challenger (always determined by rank). The highest ranking wrestlers enter at the end of a tournament and the victor in the last bout is the winner of the moshiai. In theory a rikishi could have numerous bouts by entering a moshiai or only one. He will use the same ring strategy for all bouts.

A full list of commentaries from moshiai bouts will appear on the Moshiai page.

There are no improvement gains to individual rikishi as a result of moshiai matches but as well as the benefit of getting feedback on ring strategy there is an advantage to a stable for entering and doing well in moshiai. Performing in moshiai will promote your stable in the order in which stables get their draft picks during recruitment. (see the Stables page in the Handbook for more details.)
